HP was founded in 1939 by two Stanford University classmates Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard. They developed their first product - an audio oscillator, which is an electronic test instrument used by sound engineers, at a Palo Alto garage. To develop and test innovative sound system for their forthcoming film "Fantasia", Walt Disney Studios bought eight oscillators and became one the first customers of HP. Today HP is a technology solutions provider on a global scale. The products of HP span IT infrastructure, business and home computing, imaging and printing, and global services. HP revenue totaled $90.0 billion for the four fiscal quarters ended July 31, 2006. HP is listed on NYSE, NASDAQ, and HPQ. The headquarters is situated in Palo Alto, California. HP employs approximately 150,000 employees worldwide and has its presence felt in more than 170 countries on six continents.


Pros and cons

HP Pavilion notebook PCs has AMD Sempron or Turion 64 processors along with innovations like QuickPlay, Photosmart Premier, and built-in Web cam. However, the screen resolution is not as expected. Weights of approximately 6 to 8 pounds make it heavy to carry around. Compaq Presario notebook PCs give value for performance, are robust and efficient. They have AMD Sempron or Turion 64 processors. Some models feature Interl Core&8482 Duo processors. The touch pad is designed to last long and has smooth clickable buttons. Has Imprint finish with durable coating and unique inlaid design. The lightweights are normally 5.3 pounds and are ideal for traveling. Overall, battery life is long but needs frequent recharging. The Tablet PCs have Intel Pentium M or Intel Core Duo processors and weighs about 4.6 pounds (2.08 kgs) making it light for constant travel. It has almost all the ports for an external monitor, microphone in, headphone/line out, DC power, RJ-11, RJ-45, Infrared, S-Video, USB 2.0, and even a docking connector. The screen is 12.1 inch XGA with digitizer and the looks are good. The price is very expensive but financing options are available.
